Early planning · Gunnison, Colorado

A makerspace and tool library, built for the Gunnison Valley

Sage Makers is a not-for-profit project taking shape in Gunnison, CO — a place to build, fix, learn, and borrow the tools you don't use often enough to own.

Why Gunnison doesn't have one of these yet

People here already ask to borrow tools, or to be taught how to use them. Sage Makers is the answer to that — a shared shop for woodworking, metalworking, sewing, and auto repair, plus a library of hand and power tools you can check out instead of buying.

The goal isn't profit. It's a gift to the town: a place for people of any age or income to build real skills, taught by locals who already have them.

What we're planning

  • A wood shop and a metal shop
  • An auto repair bay
  • A sewing room
  • Rentable hand & power tools, plus yard equipment
  • Classes taught by local experts and tradespeople

Planned programs

Five areas, one building. Each one will be its own small shop with its own instructors.

W

Wood shop

Hand and power tools for furniture, repairs, and general woodworking.

M

Metal shop

Welding and metalworking equipment for fabrication and repair.

A

Auto bay

A lift and a place to work on your own vehicle, with guidance on hand.

S

Sew shop

Machines and space for sewing, mending, and pattern work.

T

Tool library

Check out hand tools, power tools, and yard equipment like you would a book.

This is still early — that's the point

We're spending this year building the plan before opening any doors. If you'd want to volunteer, teach a skill, lend a hand, or just get updates as this comes together, say hello.
